Son of Count Satus Molossus and Countess Baia. Husband of Danita of Molossus. Father of Gaius. Uncle of Titus, Corvina, Severus, and Cassius. Dead. Probably the same person as Canis.
In a richer House or in a great city, Ferinus Molossus would have been a very different man. The youngest son of the Count of Molossus never loved hounds and horses the way his family did. As a child he read the three books in the family's "library" until he'd nearly memorized them. He loitered around the vicarage and committed its two volumes to memory. And that, alas, proved to be the sum total of Molossus' books.
With the literary front stymied, Ferinus' mind turned to other reading material: people. He became a shrewd trader, crossing the river frequently to barter on Tillaford's great docks. The prices Ferinus could win never ceased to amaze and delight his father Satus.
Though he was a dutiful son, Ferinus always stood slightly apart from his rough-and-tumble family. He spent a great deal of time alone; often he'd sit for hours on the hillside above Molossus, gazing out at the bay and the ocean beyond it. When he married Danita, the daughter of one of Molossus' knights, his family was baffled. Oh, Danita was pretty enough. Beautiful, even, in a pale, icy way that led some to speculate that there was a drop of elvish blood in her line. But Ferinus wasn't the type of man to lose his head over a beautiful woman, and Danita brought no great dowry to the wedding. Why did he choose her? Privately, Ferinus' brothers guessed it was because Danita was as stand-offish as Ferinus, and spent hours wandering about the edges of the Dearthwood, alone, gathering strange herbs and flowers. Despite their solitary inclinations, Ferinus and Danita had a child, a son they named Gaius.
The only family member Ferinus was truly close to was his baby sister Summa, who went to Rostilla to serve as a priestess of Dulcea. Six years ago Summa died, murdered by a thief who broke into the temple of Dulcea. Pontifex Merica of the Temple of Dulcea killed the robber, but Ferinus never seemed to accept her condolences or her explanation. He grew more aloof, spent more time by himself pursuing some secret investigation. Four years ago he took Count Arius Surrexus into his confidences, after the wedding of Magnus Tillaford and Clarissa Benobles. The two men worked closely together from that point until their recent deaths.
