The Fall of Men

Legends say that the first Kingdom of Men was the greatest civilization the world has ever seen.  This kingdom was called Vestrix and lay in the lands south of Rostilla.  The Vestrans were the first to worship the True Gods of the Pentad.  Their magics and learning were far greater than anything the world has seen since.  Even today, mages dream of the wonders of the Library of Holex, Arch-Mage of Vestrix.

Yet despite all their power and glory, the Vestrans commited some great sin against the Gods.  No one today knows what it was, though some say it happened during Vestrix's wars with the Sosharran Empire.  Furious, the Gods shattered the sky above Vestrix.  Witch lights and chaos tore the very land itself apart;  in a day and a night, the kingdom of Vestrix was destroyed.  A handful of people managed to survive and straggle north, out of Queen's Gate, where they founded the country of Rostilla.

Those Witch Lights are, unfortunately, Vestrix's most lasting legacy.  The ground of the Fallen Lands still writhes and twists beneath them.  Occasionally they flicker north, far beyond the bounds of Queen's Gate.  That far north, they're too weak to warp the land.  But they leave monsters in their wake, strange, deadly creatures that torment the realms of men.
