Sancti Sandarfon Satus Molossus Surilla
People (??) mentioned in the letters from the Temple of Lil.
What you know: 1) Their name is masculine plural (which means there's more than one of them, and at least one of them is a man). 2) Talented people are gathered into their ranks. 3) They travel in secret somewhere near "the Gate of Slaughter". 4) They're having difficulty remaining hidden, because of the patrols of the count of "the Gate of Slaughter".
Elvish paladin from the North-Woods.
Count of Molossus. Husband of Baia. Father of Cara and Ferinus Molossus. Grandfather of everyone except Leyna and Marius.
Gramps
Sister of Count Arius, Counselor Larentius, and General Martialis Surrexus. Aunt of everyone except Gaius. Student of Arch-Magister Avena. Magus of the Tower of Rostilla. Formerly Surrexus -- now disowned.
When a count's daughter displays mage talent, he will often hire a tutor rather than send her to the Tower of Magi in Rostilla. Surilla Surrexus is a good example of why lords are reluctant to ship young girls off to the capitol.
Surilla was always head-strong and willful, even as a child. Her marked magical aptitude made its first appearance when she was twelve. At the urging of Arch-Magister Avena, Count Caius Surrexus packed Surilla off to the capitol. In Rostilla, his daughter learned history, magic, dead languages... and much, much more. Away from her parents' influence, she grew wild. No party, no debauchery was too extreme for her. She was rumored to have a number of lovers, chosen from the ranks of Rostilla's most powerful and wealthy families.
Surilla was never close to her own family. Her parents' constant "harping" drove her crazy. Arius and she fought incessantly, and Martialis "always" took Arius' side. Larentius was the only siblings she could stand to be around. Some old-timers say that's not true -- she was very fond of her brother Sir Brennus (for whom the PC's brother Brennus was named). But Brennus joined the Order of St. Cavallius and died at the age of 22.
Despite this, most people can still recall a time, when they were young, when Surilla still seemed to care for her nieces and nephews. She was genuinely upset when Darius Harrans took Titus as his squire. A paladin lives about as long as a june-bug, she argued; sending your son to the Order was little better than killing him outright. Arius' "willfull" refusal to train Corvina enraged her. She could never stand Severus ("Arius's little toady") or Marius -- in fact, she rarely remembered Marius' name (she generally referred to him as "that sad little drip of a child"). But she thought Cassius was alright.
In time, that changed. When Arius became count, he gave his sister an ultimatim: he would not allow her to continue sullying the House's good name. If she did not reform her character and habits, he would disown her. Surilla told him to go screw himself. She was a great magus, a reknowned sorceress. She didn't give a fig for some backwater provincial's "morality". She didn't need Arius, his money, or his damned House. And so the count made good on his threat and disowned his sister.
Years passed, and as the party has found, Surilla changed. She's no longer just a rebellious aunt -- she's become something much darker. She is currently rumored to be the lover of King Albanus Roster.
Description: Surilla was always beautiful -- wavy red hair, skin like milk that never darkened, no matter how long she lingered in the sun. Emerald green eyes, full lips continually quirked into a half-smile. Oddly, after she went to the Tower, she seemed to become more beautiful still. Today, you would not be able to tell that she was in her late-thirties; people who don't know her swear she can't be more than twenty. Surilla has a sharp wit and is forever mocking and teasing those she dislikes. She's particularly fond of inventing insulting nicknames.
