Former knight of Surrexus. Dead
Sir Terrens came from a long line of knights, men who've served the Counts of Surrexus for generations. Perhaps that was his downfall. More and more he thought to himself, "My ancestors have been noble as long as theirs. The only difference between my line and theirs is that my grandfathers bent their knees."
Five years ago, the Count of Invictus and his best knights were all slain by a black wyrm that flew north out of Queen's Gate. (It slew several of the finest knights of the Order of St. Cavallius, too, before it fell.) The count left no heir and no knight who wished to claim the county. Few of the established counts had any interest in Invictus, even for their younger sons. The county is too poor, and attacks have been escalating for years. Becoming the Count of Invictus, many said, was a death sentence.
Terrens disagreed. He was used to the south and its Witch Lights, a skilled warrior. He had no fear of Queen's Gate and the things that boiled up out of it. His only "flaw" was that he could not claim a truly noble lineage. And that flaw could be remedied easily -- by marriage to a suitable woman.
Like Corvina, Count Arius' daughter. Terrens happened to mention his Master Plan to the girl one afternoon. Corvina was already upset because her father had recently dismissed the House's magus; he also refused to send her to the Tower at Rostilla for proper training. The threat of a marriage to Terrens was the last straw -- Corvina fled to Altania the next morning.
When the whole tale came out, Arius was livid. The Count let Terrens know, in no uncertain terms, that he would never consent to marry his daughter to a man like him. He never entirely forgave the man for driving away his daughter, even after Sir Lucellus brought him word that Corvina was safe (where, he couldn't say; the paladin had sworn an oath not to reveal her hiding spot). A short time later, King Errans granted the county of Invictus to Durus, a mere adventurer with not a single drop of noble blood in his veins.
Terrens was never a cheerful man, and the disappointment soured him through and through. And so when Surilla offered him revenge, he leaped at the chance.
Description: In his early 40s, Terrens was a big, scarred warrior. Short cropped brown hair, a bit of stubble but no true beard. Face twisted into a perpetual scowl. Nobody can really remember the last time he smiled.
Last Grand Master of the Order of St. Cavallius. Believed to be the same "person" as Amicus.
Theodosius rode into the Fallen Lands after the dissolution of the Order of St. Cavallius, taking his Council Blade, Severilia, with him.
Lucellus' squire Mores believes he is being held captive in the Fallen Lands. The creature guarding him is some kind of undead monstrosity that calls itself (himself?) "a friend" -- ie, Amicus. The sending was garbled because of the boy's great pain, but Mores believed that this Amicus must have killed Lucellus because it had something... something critically important... that belonged to the paladin. The party currently guesses that this "something" was a Council Blade. Since all of the blades are identical, Mores would have no way of distinguishing Ancilla (Lucellus' blade) from Severilia. Amicus may thus be what's left of Theodosius.
Paladin of the Order of St. Cavallius.
